Dear Visitor,
We would like to welcome you to Poland, a fascinating country lying in the centre of Europe, at the cultural crossroads of East and West. Poland is one of the largest countries in the European Union with a very young and creative population and over 2 million university students. This is why it is one of the fastest growing and developing countries in Europe. Poland lies in the very centre of Europe bordering with Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania and Russia (Kaliningrad enclave). Poles enjoy the very beautiful Baltic coast in the north and the Tatra, Sudety and Bieszczady mountains in the south. Its climate is moderate with mild summers and cold winters. The history of the country is truly fascinating, if turbulent. Being located at the frontline of Eastern and Western influence zones Poland experienced both wars and periods of great prosperity. The country was left devastated after the second World War with Warsaw, the capital city, completely destroyed. However, Poles are a very determined people and have managed to reconstruct the entire city. Nowadays, Warsaw is the commercial and academic centre of the country and the region. It is a very vibrant and fast developing city with 2 million residents 300 000 university students giving virtually unlimited opportunities to study, work and enjoy music, cinema, theatre, art and sport. It is also the most multicultural city in the region with immigrants from 120 countries living and working there. The International Cooperation Team |
