Announcement of the vice-Dean concerning adjustment of plans of studies:
12. 07. 2007 Minister of Science and Higher Education has announced a disposition concerning standards of education on different majors of studies. Enclosure no. 87 for this disposition concerns standards of education for the psychology major.
18. 01. 2008 and 14. 03. 2008 the SWPS Council of Psychology Faculty (Rada Wydziału Psychologii) has voted new plans of studies consistent with the new standards of instructing psychology. New plans of studies will be in force for all new students of SWPS, who will begin studies in our college 1.10. 2008. The full content of this plan is published below.
27.06. 2008 the SWPS Council of Psychology Faculty has voted principles adjusting existing plans of studies, taking into consideration courses taken in previous years. Detailed plans of studies for students of different modes and specialties, who will be students of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year in the academic year 2008/2009 II are published below.
Principles of realization of plans of studies for the psychology major in Faculty of Psychology SWPS in Warsaw
1. Each student of psychology is obliged to pass all the courses included in the plan of studies: core courses (courses obligatory according to the standards of education for all psychology students in Poland), courses obligatory for major specialization, courses in the frame of Applications of Psychology Study (Studium Zastosowań Psychologii) (so called specializations) and a relevant number of electives. 2. Courses included in the plans of studies for years II-V are divided into two sections: (1) courses already taken and (2) courses that need to be taken in the following years beginning from the academic year 2008/2009. All the students studying in the regular mode (without speeding up or slowing down their course of studies) are obliged to participate in all the courses provided for a given year. 3. Beginning with the academic year 2008/2009, organization of Applications of Psychology Study will be changed. In the new plan of studies two specializations are included, each of them includes one specialization lecture and one module.
All the students are obliged to take two specializations in line with the new requirements and and always for their mode of studies (traditional or extra-mural).
It is recommended to take the specialization lecture before the module relevant to the lecture. Specialization lectures are available from the 3rd year, and modules are available from the 4th year.
Students of the 5th year of traditional studies in the academic year 2008/2009, are also obliged to take an equivalent of two specializations, that is two lectures and two modules.
Regardless whether they took (during the 4th year of studies) specialization I (lecture + 2 modules) or specialization II (lecture + module), they are obliged to take one more specialization in line with the new requirements from their mode. If the module is for them 3rd one, it can be replaced (for Student's request) with 7 electives.
4. Beginning with the academic year 2008/2009 the notion of elective courses will be extended. In the case of psychology students electives are: 1) courses organized as electives (courses with the code "F"); 2) introductory specialization lectures (but the course connected to the module that a student realizes will be counted as specialization course not an elective); 3) psychology lectures on major specializations other than one's own (for example students of social psychology can take as an elective every lecture provided for clinical psychology); 4) lectures offered by other majors of studies at SWPS. Number of electives a student has to take depends on the number of ECTS points connected to the core and major specific courses. After the changes in plans of studies the number of electives may be increased or decreased in comparison to how many were assigned in previous years. Detailed information about the number of electives can be found in the plan of studies for each year. 5. To finish the studies it is obligatory to pass all the courses included in the plan of studies for a given major specialization and such a number of electives as to obtain 300 ECTS points in sum. The number of ESTS points may be higher if it needed to take more than 300 ECTS points to take all the courses included in the plan of studies. During one year a student should at first sign up for the courses planned for that year. Then the students may additionally participate in courses provided for higher years (core courses, major specialization courses, Applications of Psychology Study or electives), under the condition that, the number of ECTS points in given year will not be go beyond 9 points above the standard 60 points per year. The 9 points can be used to slight speed up the course of studies, in the frame of the rule that the number of points for all the years is 300. That is "additional 9 points" move points from higher years but do not add courses out of the plan of studies.
