Short description: The first introductory course in general psychology deals with the basic processes of perception, learning, and thinking. The course also presents information that helps to better understand mechanisms underlying these processes. The course attempts to go beyond the description of facts and theories, it promotes critical thinking about research findings and addresses some of the applications of psychological research. The course gives an opportunity to take look at the broad scope of psychology from its beginning up to the recent findings. After this course Students will be better prepared for perceive, understand and take an attitude toward human life problems.

Short description: The lecture is. related to the promotion of well-being, the prevention of mental disorders, and the treatment and rehabilitation of people affected by mental disorders. The aim of the lecture is to focus on psychopathology, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of mental disorders. The symptoms leading to the diagnosis of mental disorders will be discussed in the context of modern classification systems. The Student will also learn about the etiology and evidence based treatment models of the main groups of mental disorders: psychoses, mood disorders, substance abuse, eating disorders, anxiety and personality disorders.

Short description: The objective of the course is to acquaint Students with the main theories and research on individual differences in the areas of temperament, intelligence (abilities), and cognitive styles; the origins of individual differences; and the role of individual differences in explaining human functioning. The fundamentals of individual difference psychology comprise knowledge on the structure and functional aspects of temperament and intelligence as well as theoretical foundations of standard methods of temperament and intelligence diagnosis.

Short description: The lecture gives Students a basic knowledge of the four interacting scientific fields - psychology, ethology, genetics and evolution and teaches them the critical analysis of ideas and theories in that scope. The lecture covers 4 main topics: 1. Attitudes of humans to animals in various cultures and development of scientific theories of behavior (including elements of ethology, evolution and heredity). Interactions between these fields of science. 2. Comparative ethology. 3. Contemporary evolutionary psychology. 4. Human behavior from the evolutionary and ethological perspective.

An emphasis will be put on learning to apply in your writing the appropriate conventions included in The Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct, with a special stress on reducing bias in language with regard to gender, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic identity and disabilities.
