Teaching of English
Methods and Techniques of TEFL I & II (B.A. level 2nd year) Objectives of the course: to increase students' awareness of a variety of aspects involved in the process of teaching a foreign language; to expose students to various ways of teaching and to help them understand and reflect upon teaching through various micro-teaching tasks; to equip students with a wide repertoire of teaching techniques; to help students acquire the practical skills of evaluating and adapting language materials.
Pedagogical Theory I (B.A. level 2nd year) Objectives of the course: to get the students acquainted with basic concepts and theories of language teaching as well as with factors ensuring a high quality of teaching and learning; to enable students to analyze and evaluate educational procedures as well as to make decisions concerning the skills and actions needed or relevant in a given classroom situation; to provide the students with English and Polish metalanguage which will enable them to read professional writings in the field of education and EFL methodology, discuss the organization of language teaching in Poland and in other countries as well as to describe their own teaching practice and reflect on it Notice:
Cultural and Media Studies
Students majoring in Cultural and Media Studies are required to sign up n their 2nd year for 1 Lecture in Cultural/Literary Studies (3 ECTS) and 2 Seminars in Cultural / Literary Studies (2 x 3 ECTS). Seminars and Lectures in Cultural / Literary Studies offered in the academic year 2008/2009:
Translation Studies
English - Polish Translation Workshop (B.A. level 2nd year) The aim of the course is to practice translation of texts which do not call for any deep specialist knowledge of the subjects to which they refer. The texts are excerpts from books, magazines, and the Internet. Students try to learn how to tackle culture and language specific items in translation, and how to use dictionaries and other sources of information in the process. The focus is going to be on approaching the text as a whole, paying particular attention to its structural characteristics.
Translation Theory (B.A. level 2nd year) The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic theoretical concepts operating within the field of Translation Studies, and to the basic approaches towards translating represented by the most known translation schools and scholars. Students will learn about the most important issues discussed by translation theorists. Some of the theoretical problems will be illustrated with practical examples.
English with Business Studies
Basics of Management (B.A. level 2nd year) The aim of the course is to present the main ideas of management. Students are going to discuss management as a SKILL, consider questions of the greatest concern to the modern manager, and focus on skills essential in administrative and interpersonal aspects of the managerial role.
Micro and Macroeconomic Business Environment (B.A. level 2nd year) The course is designed to cover the most significant micro- and macroeconomic problems influencing the environment in which modern companies operate. Students will be acquainted with key economic and business terms, theories and problems, including most important public debates and controversies over economic policy, integration, globalization and systematic change.
