Welcome to the 4th Biennial Symposium
on Personality and Social Psychology
"Personality and Control"
BSPSP recognises that interdisciplinary research is vital in psychological science, and this is especially true in the case of control processes that operate at multiple levels (e.g., automatic and controlled). These processes regulate emotion, cognition, motivation and behaviour, and their dsyfunctions are writ large in the clinic.
At the 4th BSPSP, keynote speakers, symposia and posters will showcase innovative perspectives to elucidate the full range of control phenomena, including: automatic-procedural routines; cognitive processes; conscious awareness; developmental aspects of regulation; self-regulation of emotion and mood; genesis and maintenance of clinical conditions; personality and intelligence influences; and the implications of control processes for everyday life -- for example, delayed gratification, impulse control, decision making, anxiety, and economic behaviour (e.g., risk aversion). Of special importance is the hierarchical nature of control, which demands integration of basic and higher-level (often consciously represented) processes. These topics will be discussed by leading thinkers and researchers from Europe and the United States from whom we can expect a cornucopia of scientific fruits.
